Oxycontin dosage

The dose of this medicine is dependent on the suffering of the patient which you are suffering. 

If you are taking some other brand of this medicine, do not change the drug without a doctor’s prescription. 

The dose of the medicine is different for every patient. 

The dose of the medicine depends on the

  • Age 
  • The severity of the pain
  • Medical history 
  • The reaction on the body 
  • Patient’s size

Ask the doctor about the intervals between the two doses, the patient’s time to take the dose, the number of doses each day, and the patient’s medical problem.

At the initial phase for oral-administered tablets, the extended-release capsules are the adults who are not tolerant to the opioid. 

For severe pain, the adults should take 9 mg per day at the initial phase every 12 hours. However, the dose should not exceed 288mg. The children are not allowed to take this medicine.

The patients who are taking any other narcotic medicine and recently switched, under doctor’s supervision, the dose and the interval decided.

The children who need this medicine should ask the doctor. 

For adults, the oral capsules should take 5mg to 15 mg every 4-5 hours according to the patient’s condition.

The dose will adjust according to the severity of the pain.

For adults who are shifting from other narcotic medicine, the extended-release capsule can take one medicine every 12 hours. The total amount of the doses will divide into two doses according to the patient’s condition.

Children 11 years of age or above should take this medicine according to the doctor’s recommendation. The patient can take a minimum of 20 mg tablets. 

Children below 11 years of age should consult the doctor immediately.

Overdose

Without a doctor’s recommendation, do not take this medicine. Overdose of this medicine can cause serious side effects that include

  • Severe drowsiness
  • Breathlessness or paused breathlessness
  • Hallucinations 
  • Unusual symptoms
  • Confusion
  • Death 
  • Coma
